{ Bernard Salt predicts overseas change to legal… }

I read an article this week which was summarising highly regarded demographer Bernard Salt’s predictions for the future of the legal profession.
Bernard was speaking at the Queensland Law Society’s 50th Anniversary Symposium and addressed attendees on his prediction of an “overseas change”…
He described an expected growth in international opportunities based on the transferability of skills across jurisdictions. While I have certainly already seen this with my clients and candidates, the prediction is that this will only increase which will mean more opportunities for Australian lawyers seeking that very well travelled road of the working holiday as well as increasing the opportunity for Australian firms to access international work. The impact of China, and Asia more broadly as well as the mining boom, was also expected to provide our law firms with the pick of talent globally over the next five years as international lawyers are drawn to the quality of work, career advancement (both growth and as baby boomers retire) as well as the quality of life available in Australia.
Also discussed was the increasing demand on outsourcing of legal services overseas, something some firms have already begun doing.
