A recent article in the Australian seems to confirm what we all suspected. Skills shortages within a workplace equals extra stress for those of us trying to cover the gaps. The article caused me to reflect on the issues within my division at u&u – Techinical and Operations – an area notoriously underskilled not only in Australia but across the globe, a pandemic of the skills shortage “disease” that eats away at seemingly every business in operation. What is the solution?

I’m sure you are still reading and I wish I had the solution. The AIM study via the Australian finds that 82% or organisations admit to skill shortages in their organisations with 71% of staff believing more stress is placed on them as a result. In my personal opinion businesses need to adopt a multi faceted approach incorporating training, early education, internal skill identification and global sourcing. In the meantime however I hope that we, as a recruitment agency, can help soften the blow and reduce the stress by providing a few bridges for these skills gaps to allow development for the future.

One things for sure… the sales of stress balls are set to rise.. invest now!
