It has been a little slower in the coal mining space than one would have expected with all the talk late last year around the big coal projects coming online. The high Aussie dollar, a fall in demand and approvals processes have slowed down some of the mega projects. I read with interest that Queensland could benefit from the Indian Government as they scour the globe for coal mines….. to meet the dramatic rise in energy use over the next tenyears. There are a couple key points that make Australia’s coal assets stand out – high quality, our ability to supply, existing and future infrastructure and the ease of foreign investment. It will certainly be an interesting space to watch over the next six to twelve months as some of the mid tier miners continue to push through the difficulties of working under a high Australian dollar.
