u&u Recruitment Partners is partnering with an exciting State Government department to recruit a Senior Communications Officer on an initial 6-month contract, with the potential for extension.

This is a varied and rewarding opportunity for an experienced communications professional to join a high-performing team delivering community-focused communications across a major infrastructure program. Working across a diverse portfolio, you will play a key role in leading external engagement activities, providing strategic communications advice, managing stakeholder relationships and supporting effective community outcomes.

Reporting to a supportive leadership team, this role offers the opportunity to work on significant projects that directly impact Queensland communities. You will lead a small communications and engagement team, provide high-level advice to senior stakeholders and deliver proactive communications strategies within a collaborative and dynamic environment.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead the delivery of external communications, community engagement and stakeholder management activities across a major infrastructure program;

• Provide strategic communications, media and engagement advice to senior leaders, project teams and key stakeholders;

• Develop and implement proactive communication strategies, engagement plans and issues management approaches to support project outcomes;

• Lead, coach and support a small communications and engagement team to deliver clear, consistent and high-quality communication materials;

• Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, industry representatives, government agencies and internal stakeholders;

• Prepare and oversee the delivery of high-quality communications collateral including correspondence, briefing materials, engagement content and public-facing information;

• Monitor emerging communication risks, community sentiment and stakeholder issues, providing timely advice and recommendations; and

• Support media relations activities and coordinate responses to community enquiries, correspondence and emerging issues.

What You'll Bring

• Demonstrated experience in strategic communications, community engagement, stakeholder relations, public affairs or a related communications role;

• Strong experience providing communications advice to senior leaders and supporting complex projects or programs;

• Exceptional writing, editing and communication skills, with the ability to develop clear and engaging content for diverse audiences;

• Experience managing stakeholder relationships and delivering effective engagement outcomes across government, community or industry environments;

• Proven ability to identify communication risks, manage issues and provide practical solutions in a fast-paced environment;

• Experience leading, mentoring or supporting communications teams and fostering a collaborative team culture; and

• Experience working within government, infrastructure, transport or major project environments will be highly regarded.

Gold Coast location with flexible hybrid working arrangements.

Initial 6-month contract with potential for extension.
