You will be joining the Office of the Victims’ Commissioner—a small, purpose-driven team that values integrity, collaboration, and trauma-informed practice in delivering systemic reform.
 
The Opportunity

We are seeking an A06 Senior Policy Officer on a temporary basis through to 31st December 2026, based in Brisbane CBD.

In this role, you will work as part of a small team to support the Victims’ Commissioner to identify, analyse and review systemic issues impacting victims of crime. You will contribute to evidence-based policy advice and reform initiatives aimed at improving justice system responses.

This is a unique opportunity to work on complex, sensitive and high-impact policy issues within a collaborative and values-driven environment.

As a Senior Policy Officer, You will

  • Conduct detailed research, qualitative analysis and policy evaluation to support systemic reviews;

  • Prepare high-quality briefs, reports, discussion papers and correspondence;

  • Support consultation activities and engage with stakeholders across government, justice agencies and victim support services;

  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of systemic review projects, ensuring timely and high-quality outputs;

  • Work collaboratively across teams to develop accessible and accurate resources;

  • Assist in identifying emerging issues, trends and opportunities for reform;

  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive and trauma-informed team culture; and

  • Provide professional and sensitive engagement when working with complex or potentially distressing subject matter.

Required Experience

We are seeking candidates with experience in policy, research, or analysis within a government, legal, or social policy environment.

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in research, policy development or analysis;

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex information, legislation and policy frameworks;

  • Excellent written communication skills, including experience preparing reports, briefs or publications;

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes within tight timeframes;

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills;

  • High levels of professionalism, integrity and sound judgement; and

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team.

Highly regarded:

  • Experience in criminal justice, criminology, law, victim support or related fields;

  • Experience working within a government or public sector environment; and

  • Familiarity with qualitative research methods.
