The Opportunity
An opportunity is available for an experienced Principal Employee Relations Advisor (AO7) to join a small, high-performing ER team on a contract basis through to 30 June 2026.
This role has been created to support an increase in complex case work and will see you working closely with senior leaders to manage risk, provide advice and deliver timely outcomes across a range of employee and industrial relations matters.
You will step into an operational ER role, managing a focused caseload, while also contributing to proactive initiatives such as leader education and capability uplift.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing complex ER / IR cases including grievances, discipline and show cause;
Supporting conversion processes from temporary to permanent employment;
Providing advice on performance, conduct, medical and health matters;
Supporting leaders with interpretation of legislation, policies and frameworks;
Delivering training and guidance to managers on ER processes; and
Contributing to proactive ER initiatives, including workshops and education sessions.
Required Experience
You will be an experienced ER / IR professional who can step in and operate with minimal direction in a fast-paced government environment.
Demonstrated experience managing complex ER / IR case work;
Strong knowledge of public sector legislation and frameworks;
Experience within state or local government highly regarded;
Ability to manage risk and provide clear, practical advice to leaders; and
Confident working across grievance, discipline, performance and medical cases.
