I am currently recruiting an exciting role that would suit an experienced technical leader with strong Applications and Database Support expertise, to oversee the stability, performance, and evolution of a portfolio of enterprise business systems. This is a permanent position based in Brisbane’s CBD.
This is a highly visible role, combining hands on technical leadership with team management responsibilities. You will play a key role in ensuring business critical applications and databases are secure, reliable, and ready to support ongoing organisational change.
The client has specifically highlighted the importance of deep experience in Windows Server environments, application deployment, and Microsoft SQL Server, supported by strong operational troubleshooting and support capability.
Key Responsibilities
Lead a small team responsible for the support, deployment, and ongoing operation of enterprise business applications and databases;
Manage the installation, configuration, and administration of critical applications and supporting infrastructure;
Provide senior level 2nd and 3rd level technical support across application and database platforms;
Oversee application upgrades, deployments, and system improvements across Windows based environments;
Work closely with infrastructure administrators and vendors to resolve complex technical issues;
Conduct architectural reviews of new solutions, ensuring alignment with existing platforms and standards;
Identify opportunities to improve system performance, automation, and operational efficiency;
Lead technical delivery components of infrastructure and application projects;
Provide expert technical advice to internal stakeholders and leadership teams; and
Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture while supporting staff development and performance.
Technical Skills and Experience
The organisation is particularly interested in candidates with strong Senior Application and Database Support backgrounds who have operated in complex enterprise environments.
Key technical capabilities include:
Strong experience supporting enterprise applications in Windows Server environments;
Proven experience with application deployment, configuration, and upgrades;
Advanced capability in Microsoft SQL Server administration and support;
Demonstrated experience providing senior level technical troubleshooting and incident resolution;
Experience working within structured IT service management environments;
Ability to analyse system performance issues and implement sustainable solutions; and
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication capability.
Highly desirable experience includes:
Microsoft 365 and Azure administration;
Microsoft SharePoint;
PowerShell scripting and automation;
Azure Virtual Desktop or virtualisation technologies;
VMware environments;
Business intelligence or reporting platforms such as Power BI;
Experience supporting HRIS, records management, or financial management systems; and
Familiarity with ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow or Atlassian.
