About Mater

Mater is Queensland’s largest and most innovative not-for-profit healthcare service, caring for almost 700,000 patients each year across a network of 11 hospitals. We unite health, research and education to deliver excellence for our communities, continuously evolving our models of care and workforce capability to meet changing needs with compassion, integrity and performance.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Group Chief Clinical Governance Officer (CCGO) to join our Executive Leadership Team. This newly created role provides the vision and system leadership to elevate clinical governance, embed research into practice, and build the clinical capabilities via people, processes and platforms that sustain high performance over time.

What You’ll Lead

Reporting directly to the Group Chief Executive Officer, you will:

  • Provide enterprise oversight of clinical quality, patient safety, risk, privacy and regulatory compliance, aligning governance with Mater’s strategy and values;

  • Integrate research and evidence into practice in partnership with Mater Research, accelerating research translation, designing measurable improvement programs and lifting outcomes in priority pathways;

  • Build clinical capability and education through leadership of structured career pathways, best‑practice simulation program and scope of practice reviews, all strengthening teamwork, clinical judgement and patient safety;

  • Use rich clinical, operational and consumer data to set clear targets, monitor performance transparently and scale what works to a group‑wide improvement system;

  • Champion a collegiate, interprofessional culture, bringing together Medical, Nursing, Midwifery, Allied Health and operational leaders to solve system problems;

  • Bring a commercially attuned lens to service design, aligning excellence with sustainable funding models, workforce productivity and prudent stewardship of resources; and

  • Customer experience leadership development, lead initiatives that improve experiences for current and future consumers, partnering with digital, operational and clinical teams.

About You

You are an accomplished healthcare leader with credibility across disciplines and a track record in complex systems. You are known for:

  • Translating research into measurable improvement and can demonstrate uplift in safety, quality and efficiency;

  • Building capability at scale, inclusive of education frameworks, simulation, mentoring and succession planning that lift the entire system;

  • Using data commercially and clinically to prioritise investment, optimise models of care and demonstrate value;

  • Leading with a collegiate and inclusive style which unites clinicians, educators, researchers and consumers around shared goals; and

  • Balancing excellence and sustainability whilst improving outcomes whilst strengthening operational performance.

This is more than a clinical governance role, it is an opportunity to lead change, inspire excellence and drive a fully integrated approach to clinical quality, research translation, clinical capability building and workforce education. We are seeking a contemporary leader with strong commercial acumen, strategic vision and the ability to build cohesive, high‑performing teams. You will bring an ability to uplift clinical capability across disciplines, embed evidence and research into practice, and shape sustainable, consumer‑focused models of care. If you thrive in complex environments and are ready to take on a broader organisational leadership challenge, this role offers a genuine platform to influence the future of Mater’s clinical governance.

Please Note: Applications close 9am Monday, 2nd February 2026.
