Mackay Regional Council serves a community of more than 120,000 residents and manages assets valued at over $4 billion across one of Queensland’s most economically significant regional centres. The organisation operates within a dynamic environment focused on delivering infrastructure, services and long-term economic outcomes for the region.
This executive role reflects Council’s commitment to strengthening procurement as a strategic, value-adding capability. The Chief Procurement Officer will lead the development of a modern procurement function that supports infrastructure delivery, operational services and strong commercial outcomes across the organisation.
The Role
Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, the Chief Procurement Officer will lead the Contracts and Procurement program and play a key role in shaping Council’s commercial and procurement strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing strategic procurement and contract management frameworks across Council;
Leading a transformation agenda to establish a modern source-to-contract procurement model;
Delivering commercial value through strategic sourcing, supplier engagement and cost optimisation;
Providing commercial advice and procurement insight to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Councillors;
Strengthening procurement governance, performance and capability across the organisation; and
Leading and developing a multidisciplinary procurement and contracts team.
About You
You are a senior procurement leader who combines commercial acumen with the ability to lead change and influence across complex organisations.
You will bring:
Demonstrated experience leading strategic procurement or commercial functions in large organisations;
Strong capability across procurement strategy, category management and contract governance;
Experience delivering procurement transformation and organisational capability uplift;
Proven leadership experience building and developing high-performing teams;
Ability to engage effectively with senior executives and stakeholders in complex environments; and
Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management capability.
Tertiary qualifications in business, logistics or supply chain management will be highly regarded, along with professional procurement accreditation.
