The Role
As a Data Engineer, you will design, build, and optimise enterprise-grade data pipelines and cloud-based infrastructure to deliver high-quality, reliable data. You will work across analytics, automation, and digital product teams to ensure scalable, secure, and governed data delivery that underpins business intelligence and innovation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines across cloud and on-premises systems using tools such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or Databricks;
Optimise data ingestion, transformation, storage, and compute resources for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency;
Implement automated workflows, DataOps practices, and monitoring to ensure pipeline reliability and data quality;
Embed security, governance, and compliance controls across the data lifecycle, including metadata management and lineage tracking; and
Collaborate with analytics, platform, and business teams to deliver reusable, high-value data products and support advanced reporting and AI/ML use cases.
Skills and Experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience in data engineering, ETL/ELT development, or cloud data platforms;
Hands-on experience with cloud-based services (Azure, AWS, GCP) including data lakes, warehouses, and orchestration tools;
Strong SQL and Python or equivalent scripting proficiency;
Experience implementing data quality frameworks, version control, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code for data workflows; and
Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, schema design, and performance tuning.
Desirable
Experience with DataOps, MLOps, or automation frameworks;
Exposure to AI/ML pipelines and analytics tools such as Power BI or Tableau; and
Experience in regulated or government environments with strong governance and privacy obligations.
