Responsibilities
Translate complex business requirements into scalable ADLS Gen2 lakehouse and Azure Synapse Serverless SQL designs;
Design, build, and optimise ELT pipelines using Synapse Pipelines / Azure Data Factory patterns;
Develop and maintain curated data models, datasets, views, and semantic layers for reporting and analytics;
Drive best practice across data modelling and lakehouse architecture;
Monitor, tune, and optimise query performance, storage formats, and partitioning strategies;
Ensure high standards of data quality, integrity, and governance across the platform;
Contribute to data platform initiatives, including planning, delivery, and continuous optimisation; and
Leverage modern tools, including AI-assisted development (e.g. Copilot), to enhance delivery efficiency.
Key Requirements
Proven experience working as a Data Modeller within modern cloud data platforms (Azure Synapse / Fabric);
Strong hands-on expertise with ADLS Gen2, Synapse Serverless SQL, and data integration tools;
Demonstrated experience designing conceptual, logical, and physical data models across complex environments;
Deep understanding of modelling methodologies (dimensional, Data Vault, 3NF, SCDs, conformed dimensions);
Strong SQL (T-SQL) skills and experience with performance tuning and optimisation;
Experience with data modelling tools (e.g. ER/Studio, erwin, Sparx EA, SQLDBM or similar);
Solid understanding of data quality, governance, and testing frameworks;
Experience working in Agile environments with strong stakeholder engagement skills;
Exposure to Power BI and semantic modelling for reporting; and
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts to business audiences.
Nice to have:
Exposure to Microsoft Fabric and platform modernisation initiatives;
Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot); and
Exposure to machine learning concepts.
