Opportunity

As the Head of Destination you will be responsible for leading BEDA’s Destination portfolio and working in close partnership with the Brisbane region’s tourism industry to drive growth in visitation, yield, and long-term value for the visitor economy. With deep knowledge of the tourism landscape and a strong point of view on where the industry must evolve, the role plays a critical leadership role in shaping Brisbane’s destination approach, challenging conventional approaches, and unlocking new opportunities for sustainable growth.
 
What you'll Do
 
Strategy & Growth

  • Partner with GM to set & implement Brisbane’s destination strategy to drive visitation, yield and long-term value;

  • Identify priority markets, investment focus and growth opportunities; and

  • Deliver initiatives that strengthen industry capability and support sustainable growth.

Partnerships & Global Engagement

  • Build and manage strategic partnerships across government, tourism bodies and industry;

  • Maintain senior stakeholder relationships across key tourism and aviation partners;

  • Oversee international representation and support global connectivity and route development; and

  • Develop commercial partnerships that drive co-investment and measurable outcomes.

Marketing & Trade Alignment

  • Partner with Marketing to align destination strategy with target markets and campaigns;

  • Collaborate with Trade teams to drive conversion and maximise market impact; and

  • Ensure strong alignment across brand, campaign and trade activity.

Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering a strong culture and accountability;

  • Oversee delivery of destination initiatives with strong governance and financial management;

  • Oversee the delivery of the Brisbane Visitor Information & Booking Centre in Queen Street Mall; and

  • Represent BEDA across industry events, trade activity and stakeholder engagement.

What you'll Bring

  • Proven senior leadership experience, with the ability to build and lead high-performing teams in a destination, tourism or marketing environment;

  • Strong strategic capability with a track record of driving destination growth, visitor outcomes and measurable impact;

  • Experience developing and delivering business and destination plans, including clear goal setting and performance tracking;

  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including budgeting, governance and partnership management;

  • 8+ years’ experience in tourism, destination marketing, partnerships, sponsorship or related sectors;

  • Strong understanding of the Brisbane and / or Queensland visitor economy and tourism landscape;

  • Experience working across international markets, including trade, aviation or global tourism partners;

  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships across industry, government and tourism stakeholders; and

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience.
