u&u Recruitment Partners are pleased to partner with a privately owned construction company, focussing on multi-residential apartment developments. Our client is seeking its inaugural legal hire, at a senior Head of Legal level. This is a sole counsel position.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the role will suit a senior Construction lawyer with expertise across a broad range of matters including:
Reviewing and negotiating head contracts, including preparing annexures in conjunction with the estimating team and compiling contracts ready for execution;
Preparing for the project team Head Contract ‘cheat sheet’ and templates for required Notices;
Assisting the project team in Head Contract Claims and Dispute resolution;
Reviewing and negotiating financier tripartite deeds;
Reviewing and negotiating consultant agreements/novation deeds;
Reviewing and negotiating lease agreements (office, warehouse, short term lease for site amenities);
Assisting with insurance renewals and terms;
Managing Subcontract and Supplier Agreement templates, negotiating Special Conditions as required;
Assisting the project team with SOP Administration, Subcontractor Notices and Dispute resolution;
Managing general corporate legal;
Managing business Regulatory and Statutory Compliance eg licensing, NCC, WHS, HR; and
Managing DBDRV/VCAT matters.
Given this is the first legal hire internally, candidates with proven experience in a sole legal role and an ability to build out broad legal frameworks, will be highly regarded.
Ideal candidates will have at least 8 years’ PQE from either a major firm – construction team – or similar in-house construction/builder environment.
