u&u is proud to partner with Bittn to appoint an exceptional Head of People & Performance. This is a unique opportunity for a commercially minded people leader to build and shape a modern people function from the ground up within a high-growth, multi-site business.
About Bittn.
It was never just pest control. Bittn was built to do it differently: not by tweaking the old model but by rebuilding it from the ground up around one idea, smarter, safer science. Pest control built for the modern world.
Pest control in Australia is a $2 billion industry that forgot to evolve: thousands of small operators, a few foreign-owned nationals, and barely any innovation in decades.
Founded in 2013 and fast approaching 100 people, Bittn is one of the fastest-growing privately owned pest control businesses in the country, investing heavily in technology, AI and automation, with the next three years taking it from $10 million to $30 million, roughly ten times the pace of the industry around it.
Founder-led, purpose-driven, and only just getting started.
About the Role:
As Head of People & Performance, you will be a trusted and commercially focused partner to the CEO and leadership team. You will challenge, coach and enable leaders to take ownership of their people responsibilities, while personally owning the frameworks, systems and standards that underpin performance.
Reporting directly to the CEO and sitting on the Senior Leadership Team, this role owns how success is defined, measured and led across every role in the business. You will design the systems, standards and leadership practices that enable Bittn to scale, with a clear focus on performance, accountability, leadership capability and commercial outcomes. The new Senior Leadership Team is nearly complete. This role is the final seat at that table.
This is not a traditional HR leadership role. A team of one by design, with strong capability around you, you will be hands-on in building a modern people function with technology, AI and automation doing the heavy lifting. You will bring structure and build scalable systems across performance, recruitment, leadership development, employee relations and the employee lifecycle.
Key areas of impact Include:
Performance Architecture & Accountability
Design and lead the performance framework: success profiles and scorecards for every role, the performance cadence, and lead and lag indicators tied to commercial outcomes;
Provide formal people input into leadership reviews and short-term incentive assessments; and
Own remuneration reviews, benchmarking, progression frameworks and the incentive cycle.
Leadership Capability & Coaching
Design and deliver leadership development for senior, operational and emerging leaders;
Coach leaders and frontline supervisors through live performance, conduct and people matters; and
Build the emerging leader tier, starting with the field trainers.
Employee Relations, Safety & Compliance
Own employee relations at leadership level: investigations, performance, conduct, incapacity and return to work;
Maintain working knowledge of the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards and modern awards; and
Own Bittn's WHS framework, policy, compliance assurance and Role Based Physical Assessment standard.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
Own Bittn's end-to-end talent acquisition framework and the systems and quality standards that enable leaders to hire well;
Build an AI-enabled recruitment approach across advertising, screening, scheduling and selection;
Partner directly with the CEO on senior and leadership appointments;
Own workforce demand planning, translating the forecast into roles and timing and coordinating leaders to deliver; and
Own offshore and outsourced employment relationships, onboarding, offboarding and exit data.
Systems, Automation & People Operations
Build the automation layer with Digital Enablement, moving people, payroll and compliance operations to AI and automation with a thin human check; and
Own HRIS, people data and reporting.
About You:
You are a commercially minded People & Culture professional who enjoys building rather than inheriting. You are equally comfortable operating strategically with the CEO and getting hands-on with employee matters, systems and processes.
You bring a strong performance mindset and understand that effective people practices need to connect directly to business outcomes. You are confident challenging senior leaders, coaching frontline managers and designing practical systems that create clarity, accountability and consistency.
You will Demonstrate:
Senior People & Culture leadership in a high-growth, multi-site business, built rather than inherited;
Performance architecture: success profiles, scorecards and performance cadences, designed and implemented;
Remuneration structures, market benchmarking and incentive frameworks;
Coaching experience with leaders and frontline managers through live people matters;
End-to-end employee relations: investigations, performance, conduct and return to work, handled without routinely referring them out;
WHS legislation and WorkCover Queensland obligations;
Recruitment systems built, with leaders enabled to own their hiring;
Self-directed use of AI and automation to remove manual load, with HRIS and employee lifecycle systems experience (Employment Hero regarded); and
A commercial mindset that attaches a cost, an owner and a timeframe to every people decision.
