About the Role:
 
u&u Recruitment Partners are delighted to partner exclusively with Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) to recruit a number of essential positions within their Technology Office.
 
We are currently seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer (Network) to support the reliability, performance and security of the Institute’s core infrastructure platforms. This will be a 24-month fixed-term contract with a view to transitioning to permanent thereafter.
 
Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, this role will focus on maintaining and optimising the organisation’s network environment alongside broader systems administration responsibilities across servers, storage and infrastructure services.
 
You will play an important role ensuring the Institute’s network and systems environments remain secure, scalable and capable of supporting both day-to-day operations and the advanced computing requirements of world-leading research programs.
 
Based at the Melbourne Children’s Campus in Parkville, this role offers flexible and hybrid working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and maintain network infrastructure including firewalls, switches, routers and VPN connectivity;

  • Support systems administration across Linux and Windows server environments;

  • Manage and optimise network performance, availability and resilience;

  • Monitor infrastructure performance and recommend improvements to enhance system reliability;

  • Maintain secure access controls including identity management, multi-factor authentication and role-based access;

  • Work closely with cybersecurity teams to apply security patches and manage vulnerabilities;

  • Support backup, storage and disaster recovery capabilities across infrastructure platforms;

  • Collaborate with research teams to support connectivity and computing requirements;

  • Maintain documentation of infrastructure designs, configurations and operational procedures; and

  • Contribute to automation and monitoring improvements across the infrastructure environment.

About You:
 
To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Proven experience managing enterprise network infrastructure;

  • Strong knowledge of firewalls, switching and routing technologies;

  • Experience supporting Linux and Windows server environments;

  • Exposure to virtualisation platforms such as VMware, OpenShift or similar;

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability across network and infrastructure environments;

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, researchers and external vendors; and

  • A proactive approach to improving infrastructure performance, reliability and security.

Experience working within research, healthcare, scientific or data-intensive environments will be highly regarded.
