As part of ongoing growth within the Functional Accessories division, an exciting opportunity now exists for an experienced Lead Engineer to provide both technical and people leadership across a highly capable engineering team. Support organisational growth while providing a genuine succession pathway into further opportunities into Engineering Management.
Your new role:
Located within Melbourne's South Eastern suburbs, your new role will see you reporting directly to the Engineering Manager – Functional Accessories, leading a team of three Mechanical Design Engineers whilst remaining actively involved in the design, development and delivery of complex OE accessory programs.
This is a genuine technical leadership position where you will continue to apply your engineering expertise whilst providing guidance, mentoring and oversight across multiple concurrent projects. Acting as the senior technical resource for your team, you will be instrumental in ensuring products are designed for performance, manufacturability, quality and successful industrialisation.
Working closely with engineering teams across Australia, Thailand and South Africa, you will collaborate with leading OEM customers and cross-functional stakeholders throughout the complete product lifecycle, from initial concept through to production.

Your new role will see you:
Providing technical leadership, mentoring and engineering oversight for a team of Mechanical Design Engineers;
Reviewing and approving product designs, engineering documentation and technical drawings to ensure quality, manufacturability and compliance;
Leading the design and development of functional automotive accessories from concept through to production;
Managing a portfolio of engineering projects whilst supporting the wider team to deliver against critical customer and production milestones;
Working collaboratively with Project Management, Sales, Operations, Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain teams across multiple international locations;
Leading technical discussions and customer meetings with major global OEM manufacturers throughout the product development lifecycle;
Working closely with FEA specialists to evaluate simulation results and optimise product performance;
Applying Design for Manufacture (DFM), continuous improvement and value engineering principles across new product development;
Remaining hands-on throughout vehicle fitment, prototype validation and product testing activities; and
Demonstrating an uncompromising commitment to quality, engineering excellence and workplace safety.
What you need to succeed:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering & registered with NER or CPEng;
Minimum five years' experience within mechanical product design engineering, ideally within automotive, vehicle accessories or complex manufactured products;
Advanced SolidWorks experience across both 3D modelling and detailed engineering drawings;
Demonstrated experience designing fabricated steel, aluminium, plastics or cast components within a manufacturing environment;
Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) & fasteners;
Proven experience delivering products from concept through to industrialisation within structured product development environments;
Previous experience leading, mentoring or coaching engineers, either formally or informally;
Strong stakeholder management skills with the confidence to engage customers, suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams;
Practical mechanical aptitude with experience supporting prototype assembly, vehicle fitment or similar hands-on engineering activities;
The ability to successfully manage multiple concurrent engineering projects whilst supporting the development of others; and
A collaborative leadership style with the commercial awareness, technical credibility and communication skills to influence positive engineering outcomes.
