Looking to move in-house and take ownership of your own litigation portfolio?
This is an opportunity to join one of Australia's largest personal injury claims management organisations, supporting litigation on behalf of a major government insurance client.
If you're a lawyer with experience in the Personal Injury Commission and are looking for a role where you can continue developing your legal skills while gaining direct exposure to clients, claims professionals and external legal providers, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.
This is a genuinely collaborative team environment led by experienced legal professionals who are passionate about developing others. Some team members have more than 30 years of workers compensation experience, and there is a strong culture of knowledge sharing, support and teamwork.
Most importantly, you'll be trusted to manage matters, contribute to strategy and work directly with stakeholders, all without the pressure of billable targets.
The opportunity
Working within a highly experienced legal team, you will:
Manage a portfolio of litigated matters within the Personal Injury Commission;
Handle statutory disputes and work injury damages matters;
Provide legal guidance and support to claims stakeholders;
Instruct and collaborate with external legal providers;
Attend stakeholder meetings and contribute to litigation strategy;
Manage matters from commencement through to resolution;
Build strong relationships across legal, claims and business teams; and
Contribute to a cost-effective and commercially focused approach to claim management.
The workload is varied and fast-paced. Some weeks will involve multiple PIC appearances, while others will be focused on stakeholder engagement, litigation management and strategy.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
At least 1 year PAE in workers compensation, personal injury or a related litigation practice;
Exposure to the Personal Injury Commission jurisdiction;
Experience in statutory disputes and/or work injury damages;
Applicant or defendant experience will be considered;
The ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities;
Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with both lawyers and non-lawyers;
A practical and commercially minded approach to problem solving; and
A collaborative and positive attitude.
An insurance background is not essential. What's most important is your ability to hit the ground running, build relationships and contribute positively to the team.
Why this role?
Move in-house while continuing to develop your litigation skills;
No billable targets;
Manage your own matters and have ownership;
Direct client and stakeholder exposure;
Learn from highly experienced legal professionals;
Monthly rostered day off;
Hybrid working arrangement with up to 3 days WFH once settled; and
Supportive, down-to-earth and collaborative team culture.
