The Role:

Our client is a growing, multi-entity professional services group seeking an experienced Payroll Team Lead to join its centralised payroll function on a fixed-term basis through to June 2027.

Reporting to the Group Payroll Manager, you will take ownership of day-to-day payroll operations, act as a senior escalation point and provide guidance to a four-person offshore payroll team.

With payrolls operating across multiple entities and systems, this is an opportunity to step into a genuinely complex environment where strong payroll knowledge, organisation and problem-solving skills will make an immediate impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of fortnightly and monthly payrolls across multiple payrolls;

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance and technical support to the offshore payroll team;

  • Monitor payroll progress, deadlines, exceptions, approvals and outstanding actions;

  • Review payroll outputs, reconciliations and exceptions and drive issues through to resolution;

  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex payroll and operational queries;

  • Identify payroll risks and issues early and proactively address them;

  • Maintain strong payroll controls, checklists, reconciliations and compliance processes; and

  • Build strong relationships with HR, Finance, managers and broader business stakeholders.

About You:

  • Strong end-to-end Australian payroll experience in a Senior Payroll Officer or Team Lead capacity;

  • Experience leading, coordinating or mentoring a payroll team;

  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance;

  • Experience working across multiple entities, payrolls or business units;

  • Strong reconciliation, controls and exception-management experience;

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through;

  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing deadlines;

  • Confident communicating with HR, Finance and senior stakeholders; and

  • Exposure to acquisitions, payroll transitions or implementations is highly regarded.

What’s on offer:

  • $120,000–$130,000 + Super;

  • Fixed-term contract through to June 2027;

  • CBD location with 3 days per week in the office;

  • Senior position within a centralised and growing payroll function;

  • Opportunity to lead an offshore payroll team;

  • Exposure to a complex, multi-entity payroll environment; and

  • Opportunity to contribute to payroll standardisation and process improvement.
