Djirra is a community-focused not-for-profit organisation supporting Aboriginal women and their children across Victoria. With approximately 150 employees and plans for further growth, Djirra has built an excellent reputation for delivering meaningful community outcomes while maintaining a highly engaged and values-driven workforce.
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, you will lead the People & Learning function and a team of four, working closely with the CEO, Executive Director and senior leaders across the organisation. This is a pivotal role that balances strategic people initiatives with a strong operational HR remit, providing the opportunity to shape the organisation’s people strategy while remaining connected to managers and the broader workforce.
Success in this role will include:
People strategy, capability & culture:
Lead the implementation of Djirra’s Workforce Capability Strategy and Employee Value Proposition;
Develop and deliver initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, retention and organisational capability; and
Further develop Djirra’s learning and development function, ensuring initiatives align with organisational priorities.
People leadership & HR advisory:
Lead, support and develop a team a small team across the People & Learning function;
Provide trusted HR advice and support to senior leaders and managers across the organisation; and
Oversee the delivery of core HR activities including employee relations, performance management, recruitment and workforce planning.
Systems, processes & continuous improvement:
Drive continuous improvement across HR systems, processes and policies;
Optimise the use of Employment Hero and identify opportunities to improve the employee experience; and
Support the ongoing development of HR reporting, systems and processes to enable effective workforce decision-making.
We’re looking for an experienced HR generalist and people leader who can balance strategic thinking with a hands-on approach.
You’ll be a genuine relationship builder who brings cultural adaptability, patience and a willingness to listen and learn. Experience within an Aboriginal organisation or not-for-profit environment would be advantageous, however Djirra is open to candidates from broader sectors who can demonstrate strong cultural awareness, an ability to navigate complexity and a genuine alignment with Djirra’s purpose and values.
