Lead the cybersecurity maturity uplift for one of Australia’s largest regional councils and help protect critical infrastructure that supports communities across this thriving region in Queensland.

The Opportunity:

Cybersecurity Principal needed to guide and deliver the organisation’s cybersecurity hardening as it continues to strengthen its security posture under the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act (SOCI).

With strong executive support, this role reports to the CIO, leading a small but highly capable cyber security team to drive the implementation of the cybersecurity roadmap.

This is a hands-on leadership role combining strategy and delivery. The successful candidate will work closely with executives, engineers and operational teams to strengthen cyber resilience across corporate IT and OT critical infrastructure systems (Operational Technology and SCADA environments).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of the organisation’s cybersecurity strategy and roadmap;

  • Progress cyber maturity, including Essential Eight implementation;

  • Strengthen OT / SCADA cybersecurity across operational environments;

  • Lead and mentor a small cyber security team;

  • Oversee risk management, incident response and security governance;

  • Collaborate with executive leadership and operational stakeholders; and

  • Ensure compliance with critical infrastructure security obligations

About You:

You are a practical cyber security leader who enjoys delivering outcomes and working closely with technical teams.

You Will Bring:

  • Demonstrated experience leading cybersecurity teams;

  • Strong understanding of cyber risk, governance and security frameworks (e.g. Essential Eight, ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, ACSC and SOCI);

  • Hands-on experience implementing Essential Eight or equivalent security controls;

  • Exposure to OT / SCADA security or critical infrastructure environments;

  • The ability to engage and influence across both technical and executive audiences; and

  • A collaborative leadership style with a strong focus on team development.

This role will suit an experienced professional who enjoys rolling up their sleeves to deliver meaningful outcomes, rather than purely strategic leadership
