Our local government client is seeking an experienced Principal Planning Officer to join the team on a temporary basis. Working 38 hours a week with remote working options available (occasional travel required), this would be 6-month engagement with potential to extend. It will be paying a casual hourly rate of circa $75 plus super.
About the Role
In this position, you will provide high-level technical expertise in development assessment and planning services, while also supporting and guiding a small team of Planning Officers. The role involves assessing, reviewing, and determining complex development applications, including compliance matters, ensuring all outcomes align with relevant legislative and policy frameworks.
Key Requirements
Solid experience in statutory planning within a local government or comparable regulatory environment;
Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and supervising planning teams;
Strong expertise in interpreting and applying Queensland planning legislation, including the Planning Act 2016 and related instruments;
Proven ability to assess and determine complex development applications, including impact assessment and compliance matters;
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of formal planning reports and advice;
Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning (or closely related discipline); and
Current membership (or eligibility for membership) with the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).
