I am currently partnering with a large Queensland Government Department to recruit an experienced ICT Technical Officer to join a high performing Server Team of seven technical specialists.
This is a day rate contract until June 30, 2026 + potential extension based in Brisbane CBD.
Reporting to the Team Leader Servers, you will play a critical role in implementing, maintaining and supporting a large and complex enterprise ICT environment. The infrastructure landscape is predominantly Microsoft Windows based, with some Linux systems and includes a significant Azure and hybrid cloud footprint.
This role is suited to a hands on infrastructure professional who is technically strong across Azure, automation and Windows Server administration and who thrives in structured, service driven environments.
Key Responsibilities
You will contribute to the installation, maintenance and support of the department’s ICT environment, including:
Designing, building and supporting Azure based and hybrid infrastructure;
Automating infrastructure and operational tasks using PowerShell, JSON and Bicep;
Developing and maintaining Azure DevOps pipelines for infrastructure deployments;
Managing virtual environments across Azure and VMware;
Implementing and maintaining automated patching for Windows and Linux environments using WSUS and Azure Update Manager;
Managing backup and recovery solutions including Azure Recovery Services Vaults and Veeam;
Monitoring systems and responding to alerts using Azure Monitor;
Administering Active Directory and identity integrated services;
Managing the full server lifecycle including build, patching, upgrades and decommissioning; and
Troubleshooting incidents with a strong focus on automation, reliability and continuous improvement.
You will also take a lead role in problem resolution, minimising service disruption and meeting agreed performance targets. The position requires strong stakeholder engagement capability, with the ability to consult, negotiate and provide expert technical advice to staff at all levels.
In addition, you will identify service improvement opportunities, contribute to minor infrastructure projects and foster a culture focused on quality, collaboration and customer service excellence.
Mandatory Technical Skills
Applicants must clearly demonstrate capability in all of the following areas:
Azure Cloud Platforms – Proven hands on experience designing, deploying, managing and supporting Azure based and hybrid infrastructure, including Infrastructure as Code;
DevOps and Automation Practices – Experience applying DevOps principles to infrastructure and operations, including CI CD pipelines such as Azure DevOps;
Scripting and Infrastructure as Code – Strong PowerShell scripting skills and practical experience using Bicep and or JSON for reusable automation solutions;
Windows Server Administration – Extensive experience across build, patching, upgrades, hardening, lifecycle management, troubleshooting and integration with Active Directory and identity services; and
Candidates who cannot demonstrate experience across all of the above areas will not be considered competitive.
