u&u. Recruitment Partners is supporting the Department of Primary Industries to recruit an AO6 Senior Asset and Capital Accountant for a temporary contract opportunity based in Brisbane.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional with strong asset and capital accounting expertise to join a specialised team and contribute to complex capital reporting, policy advice and stakeholder support within a Queensland Government environment.

About the role

Working within Strategic Investments and Enterprise Finance, the successful candidate will join the Capital Maintenance and Asset Accounting Team and work across a range of complex capital and asset accounting matters.

This role will see you preparing and analysing monthly capital project reports, reconciliations, briefing notes and presentations, while providing insights and recommendations to management. You will also contribute to the development and review of capital management policies and procedures, provide advice to business groups on capital work-in-progress and associated acquisitions and ensure capital budgets and revisions are accurately reflected across Treasury and internal reporting.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders, Queensland Treasury and external service providers, while helping maintain effective internal controls over capital processes and asset accounting.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyse monthly capital project reports, reconciliations, briefing notes and presentations on complex asset and capital management matters;

  • Provide accurate and timely advice on capital work-in-progress, acquisitions and asset accounting policy;

  • Contribute to the development and review of capital management policies and procedures;

  • Ensure annual capital budgets and revisions are accurately reflected in Queensland Treasury Budget Papers, Tridata and internal records;

  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with senior management, Queensland Treasury and external service providers;

  • Support the development and maintenance of effective internal controls across capital processes and asset accounting;

  • Communicate capital and asset-related financial information clearly to internal and external stakeholders, including senior management and auditors; and

  • Maintain current knowledge of accounting regulations and best practice in capital asset accounting.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring demonstrated experience in asset and capital accounting, ideally within a large or complex organisation. You will be comfortable preparing detailed reports and reconciliations, interpreting policy and standards and providing practical advice to stakeholders on capital and non-current asset matters.

You will also bring:

  • Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and relevant financial reporting requirements;

  • Experience working with capital budgets, asset accounting processes and internal controls;

  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare briefing notes and presentations;

  • The ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and

  • A high level of accuracy, judgement and attention to detail.

While not mandatory, a relevant accounting qualification and membership with CPA Australia, CA ANZ or IPA will be highly regarded given the technical nature of the role.
