Department of Transport and Main Roads | Coomera Connector Stage 1 Nerang | 12-month contract | $78.63/hr + super | Possible extension

u&u Recruitment Partners is partnering with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to recruit an experienced Senior Environmental Officer (PO4 equivalent) to support the delivery of Coomera Connector Stage 1 – Coomera to Nerang.

This is a 12-month temporary full-time contract based in Nerang, commencing September 2026 through to September 2027, with the possibility of extension.

The Opportunity

Working within TMR’s South Coast Region, you will provide specialist environmental advice and support across the planning and delivery of the Coomera Connector program.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will play an important role in ensuring environmental obligations, approvals, offsets and project risks are effectively managed throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with project teams, technical specialists, government agencies and external advisors across a major transport infrastructure program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level advice on environmental legislation and statutory obligations, including requirements under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act);

  • Support the delivery of Commonwealth and State environmental approvals and offsets;

  • Provide specialist advice on environmental assessments, compliance and environmental management across all project phases;

  • Review project designs, environmental surveys, spatial data, Public Environment Reports, contract specifications, condition packages, audits and technical briefs;

  • Identify environmental constraints and work with project teams to develop practical design or delivery responses;

  • Advise project management teams on environmental risks and issues that may impact project delivery;

  • Coordinate and project manage environmental offsets and project land requirements;

  • Liaise with internal TMR teams, State and Local Government agencies, industry, and external project advisors;

  • Prepare high-level written advice, briefings and project-related correspondence;

  • Represent the project at working groups, steering committees, and stakeholder meetings; and

  • Contribute to embedding sound environmental management and infrastructure sustainability across the Coomera Connector project.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Strong experience providing environmental advice within infrastructure, transport, construction, or another complex project environment;

  • Sound knowledge of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation and approval processes;

  • Experience supporting environmental approvals, assessments, compliance and offsets;

  • The ability to interpret environmental surveys, technical information, spatial data and project documentation;

  • Strong environmental risk identification and problem-solving capability;

  • Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills across government, project teams, consultants and external stakeholders;

  • Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing briefings, reports and advice for senior stakeholders; and

  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within a multidisciplinary project environment.

Mandatory Requirements

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management or Natural Resource Management from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent qualification;

  • Current Queensland C class driver licence;

  • Ability to successfully complete criminal history screening; and

  • Onsite attendance required with some hybrid flexibility.

Contract Details

  • Classification: PO4.1 equivalent;

  • Contract: 15 September 2026 – 14 September 2027;

  • Extension: Possibility of extension;

  • Rate: $78.63 per hour plus super (Includes casual loading);

  • Hours: Temporary full-time; and

  • Location: Nerang site.
