About the Opportunity

This is a senior specialist role within a broad Employment Relations team, supporting a large, nationally distributed organisation through complex and sensitive employee relations matters. Working alongside experienced Case Managers and ER Advisors, you’ll provide the specialist guidance behind the scenes - helping leaders navigate difficult situations, ensuring processes are fair and well-managed, and translating employment legislation into practical advice that makes sense to the people applying it.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Take ownership of complex ER matters through to resolution, including sensitive and externally represented cases;

  • Partner with frontline managers and regional leaders to guide them through investigations, misconduct, performance, grievance and other complex employee matters;

  • Provide specialist advice on employment legislation, policy and industrial instruments, translating technical requirements into clear, practical guidance;

  • Coach leaders and ER colleagues on best-practice case management, procedural fairness, risk and appropriate outcomes;

  • Identify trends and themes across casework, using insights to highlight opportunities for early intervention, leader capability and broader business improvement;

  • Build strong relationships across HR and the wider business, providing a trusted and consultative ER perspective to senior stakeholders; and

  • Work closely with an external employment law firm where specialist legal advice or representation is required.

About You

You’ll be someone who enjoys the complexity of ER and is confident navigating sensitive matters with sound judgement, professionalism and empathy. You’ll bring strong knowledge of employment law and ER principles, but just as importantly, you’ll know how to make that knowledge accessible - helping leaders understand not just what they can do, but how to approach difficult situations well**.**

We’re looking for:

  • A background in dedicated ER/IR is welcomed, as is strong Business Partnering experience with a significant focus on employee relations and a genuine desire to specialise further in this space;

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex employee relations matters from beginning to end, ideally within a large or geographically dispersed organisation;

  • Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation, with the ability to interpret legislation, policy and industrial instruments and translate this into practical advice;

  • Experience conducting or guiding investigations, managing sensitive matters and supporting leaders through challenging employee situations;

  • A consultative and relatable approach, with the confidence to engage frontline managers through to senior regional leaders; and

  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to identify broader trends, risks and opportunities beyond the individual case.

Culture and Benefits

You’ll be joining a highly capable and collaborative team, led by an experienced and genuinely consultative leader who provides autonomy, trusts their team to do their work well and gives you the freedom to make the role your own.

  • Hybrid working – three days in the office and two days from home;

  • Work in collaboration with a team of experienced ER Case Managers and Advisors;

  • Regular exposure to senior leaders across a national organisation;

  • The opportunity to influence ER capability and practice beyond individual cases; and

  • A role where your specialist knowledge will be valued and relied upon.
