u&u. Recruitment Partners is partnering with a large Queensland Government department to recruit a Senior Finance Transformation Specialist into a key financial management improvement programme. This division manages a substantial infrastructure portfolio, supporting a large and growing asset base and a significant annual capital works and maintenance programme. The broader division is on a journey to lift the maturity of its business practices across portfolio, financial, asset and contract management.
The opportunity
This is a hands-on transformation role for a finance specialist who enjoys improving how things work. Sitting within a dedicated improvement programme, you will help review current finance processes, develop robust and practical guidance materials and support a more consistent operating model across portfolio and operational finance.
This is not a BAU accounting role focused on reconciliations, registers or statutory reporting. Instead, it is a business improvement opportunity where you will help build better financial management practices, clearer documentation and more user-friendly processes across a complex infrastructure environment.
In this role, you will
Review and redesign finance processes across infrastructure portfolio and operational finance;
Develop practical guidance materials, including capitalisation procedures and forecasting methods;
Build documented protocols and a user-friendly financial management manual;
Support the uplift of project cost forecasting techniques and finance documentation;
Analyse financial data and contribute to dashboards, reporting and performance insights;
Work closely with project team members, subject matter experts and operational stakeholders;
Help facilitate workshops and capability uplift activities for finance and non-finance users; and
Translate complex finance concepts into practical processes that support better day-to-day decision-making.
About you
You will be a finance improvement professional who can balance technical depth with pragmatism. You’ll be comfortable working in an evolving environment, joining the dots across finance and operations and producing clear, useful outputs rather than just advisory commentary.
To be successful, you will bring:
Strong experience in financial management within an asset-heavy or infrastructure environment;
Demonstrated success in finance transformation, process improvement or continuous improvement programmes;
Strong understanding of financial systems, controls and reporting frameworks;
Working knowledge of AASB requirements relevant to asset management / capitalisation;
Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to produce procedures, guidance and manuals;
Experience with forecasting, budgeting, cost reporting and performance analysis;
Confidence working with stakeholders across varying levels of financial maturity; and
Strong Excel skills and familiarity with ERP environments such as SAP; Power BI exposure will be well regarded.
Benefits
This is an opportunity to make a visible impact in a large-scale infrastructure environment where your work will help shape better finance practices for the future. You’ll join an established improvement team, work on meaningful transformation initiatives and partner with stakeholders across finance and operations. With a competitive hourly rate, flexible working options and a broad remit across process improvement, documentation, forecasting and capability uplift, this is a strong contract opportunity for a finance specialist who enjoys change and improvement.
