Job Details

We’re hiring experienced TV App Developers to help build high-performance streaming applications for Smart TVs, consoles and living-room devices. This role sits inside a high-impact engineering team responsible for delivering premium video experiences used by millions of Australians.

This is not a standard React web role - you’ll be engineering applications that run on Samsung Tizen, LG WebOS, PlayStation, Xbox, and Set-Top devices, with a strong focus on streaming, playback performance, UI rendering and device optimisation.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build and maintain TV applications across Tizen, WebOS, Xbox, PlayStation and other TV platforms;

  • Develop rich 10-foot UIs using Lightning.js or similar non-DOM rendering frameworks;

  • Integrate and optimise video playback using Shaka Player, Bitmovin, or HLS/DASH pipelines;

  • Debug and improve performance on constrained hardware (rendering, memory, FPS, GC tuning);

  • Implement remote-control navigation, focus management, and device-specific interactions;

  • Collaborate with backend, product, and design teams to deliver features end-to-end;

  • Work closely with QA on cross-device testing and troubleshooting platform-specific issues; and

  • Write clean, well-tested JavaScript/TypeScript focused on long-term maintainability.

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript (deep fundamentals over framework use);

  • Hands-on experience building apps for Smart TVs, consoles, OTT platforms, or similar devices;

  • Exposure to Lightning.js, WebOS/Tizen SDKs, Roku, or other non-DOM rendering frameworks;

  • Experience integrating and optimising video players (Shaka, Bitmovin, HLS/DASH);

  • Solid understanding of performance optimisation on low-power or resource-constrained devices;

  • Experience with remote-control UX and 10-foot UI patterns; and

  • Ability to triage and resolve complex device-specific issues.

Nice-to-have

  • React experience (helpful for shared component patterns, not core to the role);

  • Automated device testing (Suitest, Appium, internal frameworks); and

  • Experience with analytics events, A/B testing or feature flags (LaunchDarkly etc.).

Why this role is unique

  • Build apps that reach millions of users across Australia;

  • Work across multiple TV platforms — WebOS, Tizen, Xbox, PlayStation, etc.;

  • Solve deep technical challenges in streaming, playback, and device optimisation;

  • Join a respected engineering team with high visibility and real product impact; and

  • Genuine potential for extension for strong performers.

Who this role is ideal for

  • Lightning.js engineers;

  • Tizen/WebOS TV developers;

  • Roku/BrightScript devs looking to move into Lightning.js;

  • OTT streaming specialists; and

  • Video playback engineers.

Who this role is not for

  • React-only frontend developers;

  • Developers without streaming or device-level experience; and

  • Mobile devs trying to pivot without relevant TV or playback exposure.

What’s On Offer

  • 6-month contract with genuine extension runway/conversion to perm;

  • Sydney HQ with regular onsite device testing (hardware provided);

  • Inclusive, senior engineering culture focused on quality and delivery; and

  • Competitive daily rates up to $1100/day (incl. super).
