The Role

The Senior Manager – People Systems is accountable for the end-to-end ownership, performance and evolution of enterprise HR and Payroll systems.

The role leads a multidisciplinary systems team responsible for configuration, integration, delivery and operational support of HR and payroll platforms across Australia and New Zealand. This includes ensuring systems are configured to support complex award interpretation, payroll calculations and legislative compliance aligned to employment contracts and industrial instruments.

Operating at a senior leadership level, the role partners closely with Payroll Operations, Digital (IT), People & Culture, Industrial Relations, Legal and external vendors to deliver stable, compliant and scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ownership of enterprise HR and Payroll system architecture and delivery outcomes;

  • Governance of system configuration supporting awards, agreements and legislative requirements;

  • Oversight of HR and Payroll system projects, including solution design, build, testing, data migration and transition to BAU;

  • Leadership of BAU support, release management and planned maintenance across SAAS platforms;

  • Risk management and change control in a business-critical environment; and

  • Financial management, forecasting and resource capacity planning.

The systems landscape includes enterprise payroll platforms, workforce management solutions, cloud-based HCM systems, time capture technologies and legacy environments supporting a large and operationally diverse workforce.

Key Requirements

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise HR, Payroll or workforce management systems in large, complex organisations;

  • Strong working knowledge of Australian and/or New Zealand payroll legislation, awards and industrial frameworks;

  • Experience operating across multiple HR and payroll platforms concurrently;

  • Proven delivery of system change in highly controlled, business-critical environments;

  • Experience partnering with IT delivery teams, including mixed onshore and offshore models; and

  • Strong background in vendor-led and internally delivered system solutions.

Technical & Professional Capability

  • Deep understanding of HR and payroll system configuration, data integrity and downstream impacts;

  • Strong grasp of system governance, risk management and change frameworks;

  • Experience with SAAS platforms, release cycles and vendor-managed environments;

  • Proficiency across both Agile and traditional delivery methodologies; and

  • Ability to translate business, payroll and industrial requirements into system-ready solutions.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Proven ability to lead and develop specialist technical teams;

  • Strong senior stakeholder engagement across People, Payroll, IT and Legal functions;

  • Effective vendor management, including commercial and performance accountability; and

  • Clear, structured communication style with strong decision making capability.
