About the Role
u&u Recruitment Partners are delighted to partner exclusively with Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) to recruit a number of essential positions within their Technology Office.
We are currently seeking an experienced Systems Administrator – Backup & Storage to support the ongoing management, reliability and resilience of the Institute’s enterprise storage and data protection platforms. This will be a 12-month fixed-term contract
This position will play a critical role ensuring research data and core business systems remain secure, recoverable and available across the organisation’s infrastructure environment.
Working closely with infrastructure, cybersecurity and research teams, you will help maintain scalable storage services and robust backup and recovery capabilities that support the Institute’s mission-critical research activities.
Based at the Melbourne Children’s Campus in Parkville, this role offers flexible and hybrid working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities
Manage enterprise backup and recovery platforms supporting research and corporate systems;
Ensure backup environments meet recovery point and recovery time objectives;
Perform restore testing and disaster recovery validation exercises;
Investigate and resolve backup failures, performance issues and data protection risks;
Administer enterprise storage environments supporting research workloads;
Manage storage capacity, performance optimisation and lifecycle planning;
Support VMware infrastructure and virtualised Windows and Linux servers;
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure backup and storage services align with security policies and governance standards;
Contribute to infrastructure automation and monitoring improvements; and
Maintain documentation including infrastructure configurations, runbooks and operational procedures.
About You
To succeed in this role you will bring:
Strong experience managing enterprise backup and storage environments;
Proven experience supporting VMware infrastructure;
Experience working across Linux and Windows server environments;
Strong understanding of disaster recovery principles and data protection strategies;
Experience with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell, Bash or Python;
Strong troubleshooting capability within infrastructure and storage environments; and
Ability to work collaboratively across infrastructure, research and cybersecurity teams.
Exposure to cloud storage platforms, infrastructure automation practices or research computing environments will be highly regarded.
