Tech Lead – PHP / eCommerce (Digital Platforms)
Sydney | Hybrid | $160–170k + super
We’re working on a key hire for a hands-on Technical Lead to drive delivery across a large-scale eCommerce and digital platform environment.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering, architecture, and delivery, ideal for someone who still enjoys getting into the detail, but wants to step up into broader technical ownership.
About the Role
You’ll be responsible for leading technical direction and ensuring quality delivery across web and app platforms, with development delivered by external vendors.
A key part of the role is being able to review code, challenge technical decisions, and guide scalable solutions, particularly across PHP-based systems and API-driven architectures.
You’ll work closely with Product, Architecture, and Delivery teams across multiple initiatives, balancing BAU optimisation with major platform enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
Review and validate vendor-delivered code (PHP) and ensure quality standards;
Provide technical guidance and solution design input across key initiatives;
Drive delivery of eCommerce projects including subscriptions, fulfilment, and order management;
Partner with Product Owners and Architects to translate business needs into technical outcomes;
Manage multiple workstreams across BAU and project delivery; and
Act as the technical escalation point across digital platforms.
Tech Environment
Back-end: PHP (Magento, Laravel, Symfony or similar);
Architecture: API-led / microservices;
Cloud: AWS (or similar); and
Front-end: PWA / Web / Mobile (vendor-led).
What We’re Looking For
Strong PHP backend experience - able to review code and challenge solutions;
Background in eCommerce platforms (Shopify, Magento, or similar);
Experience with order management, payments, fulfilment or subscription models;
Proven ability to work with and manage external development partners;
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills; and
Experience in Agile environments with multiple concurrent workstreams.
Why Apply?
Own technical delivery across a high-traffic digital platform;
Work on meaningful eCommerce initiatives (subscriptions, fulfilment, optimisation);
Step into a role with real technical influence without losing hands-on involvement; and
Join a collaborative, fast-moving digital environment.
