About QMusic

QMusic is the peak body for Queensland's contemporary music sector – a not-for-profit that has been backing Queensland artists, music workers and businesses since 1995. Our purpose is a music industry that is thriving, diverse and connected, from the inner city to the regions.

We combine sector development, advocacy and flagship platforms that put Queensland music on the national and world stage. That includes BIGSOUND, the largest music industry event in the southern hemisphere, the Queensland Music Awards, and our state-wide QMusic Industry Connect program. We exist to empower artists and music businesses of every size, advocate on behalf of the sector, and represent Queensland music to government, industry and the community.

The Opportunity

QMusic is at a defining moment. Having recently transitioned to a Company Limited by Guarantee the organisation is energised and ready for its next chapter. The focus is on deepening connection with members, growing the industry’s confidence in QMusic, and championing its core purpose: empowering the sector, backing emerging artists, and advocating for the music community.

The incoming CEO will lead QMusic into its next chapter. You will set a clear, confident vision, build momentum and connection across the industry, and position QMusic as a credible, influential and commercially sustainable voice for Queensland music. It’s a role for a leader who can bring people together, shape an ambitious future, and lead with authenticity, energy and genuine care for the sector.

What You'll Do

  • Set the strategy. Lead the development and delivery of QMusic's strategic plan with the Board, translating priorities into clear plans, KPIs and measurable outcomes;

  • Grow trust & profile. Champion QMusic's purpose and value, deepening confidence and connection right across the music community;

  • Lead the people. Inspire and build the capability of the team, and create a healthy, values-aligned and people-centred culture;

  • Champion the sector. Advocate for Queensland music in government, funder and industry forums, ensuring the diverse voices of artists, venues, managers, labels and music businesses are heard;

  • Strengthen relationships. Build and deepen relationships with the State Government, Brisbane City Council, and partners across all levels of government and industry;

  • Secure the future. Reignite the partnerships and sponsorship program, diversify revenue, and manage financial sustainability and reporting;

  • Deliver the platforms. Oversee the delivery of BIGSOUND, the Queensland Music Awards and statewide programs through your Directors, with strong governance and accountability; and

  • Govern well. Ensure governance, risk, compliance and reporting frameworks meet the requirements of the new CLBG structure.

About You

You're an authentic, values-driven leader with genuine passion for the music or creative industries – and the credibility to unite a sector that feels deep ownership of QMusic.

Essential

  • Proven executive leadership with significant tenure, or a strong track record within complex commercial organisations;

  • Proven success in government relations and advocacy, and experience as a public spokesperson or sector advocate;

  • Commercial and financial acumen to build partnerships, sponsorship and diversified revenue, and to manage budgets and funding relationships;

  • Experience leading organisations through change, growth or transformation, with a track record of fostering strong culture and stakeholder trust;

  • Strong people leadership and high emotional intelligence, with experience in culture development, workforce wellbeing and psychosocial safety;

  • Exceptional strategic thinking, negotiation skills and the ability to make high-impact decisions;

  • A track record leading complex stakeholder ecosystems spanning government, industry, community and partners;

  • Capability in governance, risk and crisis management, and in reporting to a Board;

  • A genuine, values-driven commitment to the mission; and

  • Comfortable attending evening events and travelling as required, nationally and internationally.

Desirable

  • Experience within, or transitioning to, a Company Limited by Guarantee and / or a membership-based organisation;

  • A working knowledge of how the music industry operates – how music is made, released and sustained – even without having held a leadership role within the sector;

  • Experience or transferable knowledge across music, arts or creative industries;

  • Experience leading digital transformation or technology-enabled improvement; and

  • Experience in philanthropy, donor engagement and diversified revenue, with an entrepreneurial mindset.

The Right Person

This is not a corporate environment – it’s a community, and it calls for a leader driven by passion and purpose. We’re looking for someone who is genuinely excited to champion Queensland’s artists and drive the sector forward – flexible and energised by the rhythm of the industry, comfortable attending evening events, and open to travel.

The right person brings authentic love for Queensland music, the conviction to advocate for it, and the heart to bring people with them. If you believe in the power of music to shape our culture, our communities and our economy, and you’re ready to lead the organisation at the heart of it all, we would love to hear from you.
