About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead design delivery across a portfolio of projects spanning commercial, retail, education, sports facilities and industrial sectors.
You will lead and develop a team of 6–10 design professionals across the eastern states, setting clear expectations around performance, programme, and quality of outputs.
Key responsibilities include driving design programme alignment, managing consultant coordination, mitigating design risk, and ensuring documentation is compliant, coordinated, and buildable.
This role requires strong leadership presence establishing consistent systems, mentoring emerging leaders, managing workflow across multiple regions, and ensuring a high-performance, accountable team culture.
About You
You are a Design Manager with commercial head contractor experience, known for leading high-performing teams and delivering complex projects in live construction environments.
You will bring:
Proven leadership experience managing and developing design teams, ideally across multiple locations;
Ability to drive accountability, performance, and consistency across a distributed team environment;
Strong technical capability across construction documentation, consultant coordination, and compliance;
Demonstrated experience delivering projects across commercial, retail, education, sports or industrial sectors;
Deep understanding of buildability, staging, value engineering, and design risk management;
Ability to align design programmes with procurement and construction sequencing;
Experience managing multiple projects concurrently without compromising quality or programme;
Confident stakeholder engagement across clients, consultants, and internal delivery teams; and
Pre-contract experience, including involvement in tenders, methodology and cost planning.
