About the Role
GAWB is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Engineering Manager to lead its engineering function and provide technical stewardship across the organisation’s capital and operational programs. Reporting to the General Manager Capital, this role is responsible for setting the engineering strategy, leading a multi-disciplinary team and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compliant and efficient engineering outcomes aligned with business objectives. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping engineering standards, supporting project delivery and guiding long-term infrastructure planning. Key responsibilities include:
Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Engineering Team, ensuring alignment with GAWB’s operational and capital programs;
Deliver technical oversight across engineering activities including design review, specifications, investigations and engineering studies;
Act as the custodian of engineering standards, policies, procedures and technical documentation;
Provide specialist technical advice to support capital works, asset management and long-term planning, including the 5-Year Works Program;
Support project managers, consultants and contractors to ensure safe, efficient and compliant project delivery;
Oversee the Dam Safety Improvement and Compliance Program, ensuring works are delivered on time and within budget;
Lead continuous improvement of engineering practices, systems and processes;
Manage engineering input into budgeting, financial performance and resource planning;
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, government agencies and the community; and
Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a positive and collaborative culture.
About You
You are a highly capable engineering leader with strong technical expertise and a proven ability to lead teams within complex infrastructure or utilities environments. You bring a strategic mindset, sound judgement and the ability to influence outcomes across both technical and business domains.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Degree qualification in Engineering (Civil, water / hydrology or related discipline preferred);
Demonstrated experience in a senior engineering or leadership role, ideally within the water or infrastructure sector;
Proven ability to provide technical leadership across multi-disciplinary engineering functions;
Strong understanding of engineering standards, design processes and asset management practices;
Experience supporting capital projects and operational programs;
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications;
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills;
Current “C” Class Driver’s Licence; and
Eligibility for Chartered Engineer (CPEng) and / or Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ).
