We are proud to be partnering with Central Petroleum Limited to recruit a hands-on Environmental Regulatory Specialist for their Brisbane team. Central Petroleum is a well-established Australian oil and gas producer, supplying reliable gas across regional Australia and committed to environmental sustainability – leaving the smallest possible footprint for future generations.

This newly created role will strengthen regulatory and compliance processes, support NGERS reporting, and provide exposure across operations, engineering, subsurface, and finance teams. Reporting to the Risk and HSE Manager, you’ll engage directly with regulators and contribute to building strong environmental systems.

About the Opportunity

This role is ideal for a hands-on, technically capable environmental professional who thrives in an autonomous environment. You will be confident engaging with regulators, navigating complex compliance landscapes, and providing practical, pragmatic solutions.

You will be responsible for

  • Acting as the primary point of contact for environmental regulators, including the Clean Energy Regulator and Northern Territory authorities;

  • Managing regulatory requests, submissions, clarifications, and evidence provision;

  • Leading NGERS compliance activities, including controls mapping and environmental reporting processes;

  • Coordinating with external sustainability consultants to implement reporting frameworks;

  • Developing and enhancing environmental compliance systems, including controls tracking and INX triggers;

  • Preparing high-quality technical documentation, responses, and regulatory correspondence; and

  • Supporting upcoming drilling programs from an environmental compliance perspective.

Key Requirements

We are seeking a proactive, technically capable environmental professional who thrives in a hands-on, autonomous environment. You will be confident engaging regulators, able to navigate complex compliance landscapes, and pragmatic in your approach to problem-solving.

Additionally, you will have

  • Demonstrated experience in environmental regulatory compliance (oil & gas or broader energy preferred);

  • Strong working knowledge of NGERS reporting and environmental obligations;

  • Proven experience engaging directly with regulators and managing submissions;

  • Experience developing or improving environmental systems, controls, and reporting frameworks;

  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills; and

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams.

Please note - occasional ad hoc site travel required.
