The Opportunity
Teys Australia is seeking a highly experienced and commercially minded General Manager – WHS to lead the group-wide WHS function across a large, complex, multi-site operation.
Based at the Group Support Services office in Eight Mile Plains, Brisbane, this senior leadership role will set the strategic direction for Workplace Health & Safety, influencing both executive decision-making and operational outcomes across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the General Manager – WHS will work closely with site-based WHS Managers and senior operational leaders to embed a proactive, prevention-focused safety culture across all locations.
The role will provide enterprise-level oversight of WHS systems, frameworks, and governance, ensuring consistent, compliant, and effective management of organisational risk associated with injuries, illness, and physical and psychosocial hazards.
Other responsibilities include
Oversee governance and maintenance of safety documentation, ensuring consistency across the sites;
Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, standards, and internal policies, tailored to suit organisational needs;
Monitor and report on regular site audits, performance metrics, and drive continuous improvement initiatives;
Lead the review and uplift of the Safety Management System, ensuring it supports both current operations and future business direction, while remaining practical, scalable, and user-centric;
Provide expert advice on safety management, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and workers compensation;
Support and develop Workplace Health & Safety team across the group; and
Represent the organisation in external audits, industry forums, and legal matters as required.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring
10+ years’ experience in senior or group-level Workplace Health & Safety leadership roles, with a strong strategic mindset and proven success implementing enterprise-wide WHS frameworks;
Highly effective stakeholder leader, with the ability to influence and partner at executive, operational, and site level;
Extensive experience delivering practical WHS solutions that positively impact diverse operational teams, including local and international workforces across multiple sites, and are sensitive to different cultures and languages;
Accredited WHS Officer and Rehabilitation Coordinator, with deep expertise in injury management, workers’ compensation, and return-to-work programs across QLD, NSW, VIC and SA; and
Strong systems and governance capability, including confidence working with data, reporting, compliance frameworks, and contemporary WHS practices to deliver practical, solutions-focused outcomes.
