An established, values-driven not-for-profit is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead WHS, governance and operational risk.
Reporting into the Executive of Risk and Compliance, this role will oversee the development, implementation and continuous improvement of WHS frameworks, working closely with executives and operational leaders to embed practical, effective safety practices.
You will combine safety governance and reporting with hands-on operational leadership, supporting frontline teams, managing risk and strengthening safety capability across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Lead organisation-wide WHS strategy, frameworks, policies and systems aligned to legislation and organisational goals;
Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, Codes of Practice and regulations, advising leadership on emerging risks and best practice;
Lead and develop a small WHS team of 2, setting objectives, fostering capability and promoting professional growth;
Provide operational WHS support, including incident management, investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions;
Drive a proactive safety culture through engagement, consultation, communication and training initiatives; and
Manage WHS systems, reporting, statutory obligations and oversight of workers’ compensation and return-to-work processes.
About You
This role will suit an emerging leader or a safety professional with a strong WHS foundation who is ready to step into a leadership position.
You’ll also have
Qualifications in Work Health and Safety or a related discipline, with a strong background in WHS in complex, multi-site environments;
Strong knowledge of Queensland WHS legislation, frameworks, Codes of Practice, and related regulatory obligations;
Experience in WHS governance and executive / board-level reporting;
Ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders and stakeholders, influencing safety outcomes and organisational culture;
Exposure to leading / mentoring WHS teams; and
Unrestricted Driver’s Licence, eligibility to work in Australia and willingness to obtain / maintain required Blue Card and Safeguarding Children training.
