City Parklands is a purpose-driven organisation responsible for the management, activation and care of some of Brisbane’s most recognised precincts, including South Bank, Roma Street Parkland, Victoria Park, Anzac Square and Post Office Square.
The organisation is now seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead the next phase of the organisation’s safety journey. Reporting directly to the Chief Corporate Services Officer, this is a highly visible leadership role where you will influence culture, uplift capability and drive practical safety outcomes across diverse operational environments.
The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to combine strategic leadership with hands-on operational engagement across horticulture, maintenance, events, asset management and public precinct operations.
Leading a small team, you will partner closely with leaders across the business to embed a proactive, people-first safety culture and ensure safety remains visible, practical and integrated into everyday operations.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement the WHS strategy aligned to organisational goals and legislative requirements;
Lead safety culture transformation and strengthen accountability across all levels of the business;
Provide coaching and trusted advice to leaders, frontline teams and the Executive team;
Drive continuous improvement across SWPs, risk management frameworks and safety systems;
Lead audits, governance reviews and compliance activities;
Oversee incident investigations and corrective action processes;
Deliver meaningful WHS reporting to Executive and Board stakeholders;
Ensure mandatory training frameworks are effective, relevant and completed;
Lead and develop the Health & Safety function with energy and purpose; and
Build strong relationships with regulators, unions and external stakeholders.
About You
You are an engaging, credible and pragmatic safety professional with the resilience and influence to lead through change. You enjoy being visible in operations, build trust quickly and know how to translate strategy into practical frontline outcomes.
What You’ll Bring
Proven leadership experience in Health & Safety across multi-site or operational environments;
Strong understanding of WHS legislation, governance and contemporary safety practices;
Demonstrated success driving cultural change and influencing senior stakeholders;
Experience in high-risk operations and critical risk management;
Strong coaching, communication and stakeholder engagement capability;
Ability to balance strategic priorities with day-to-day operational delivery;
Tertiary qualifications in WHS or related discipline (essential); and
TAE / training capability highly regarded.
