As the Principal Advisor - Information Security, you will provide expert guidance on information management and security, working closely with senior leadership to strengthen governance, risk management, and cyber practices. This role offers high-impact engagement across internal teams, whole-of-government initiatives, and key external stakeholders.

What you’ll do:

• Provide expert input into agency-wide information security and information management strategies, policies, procedures, and frameworks;

• Support and enhance the department’s Information Security Management System (ISMS), leading strategies for continual improvement;

• Advise senior stakeholders on risk controls, treatments, and incident response planning, including playbook development and participation in cyber exercises;

• Monitor the department’s information asset portfolio, coaching custodians to meet policy obligations;

• Engage across the Digital Strategy & Information Security Subcommittee (DSISS), Audit and Risk Committee (ARC), Leadership Team, and whole-of-government partners, providing briefings, updates, and recommendations;

• Contribute to operationalising whole-of-government policies and frameworks for data, information, and security management; and

• Act as a central coordination point for information security incidents, supporting timely reporting, post-incident reviews, and identifying stronger controls.

About you:

• Strong demonstrated experience in information management, information security, risk management and incident management;

• Proven ability to influence and engage executive-level stakeholders;

• Experience in developing business cases, concise briefings, and reports for decision-making;

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; and

• Experience in cybersecurity, ISMS, governance frameworks, and enterprise risk management is highly regarded.
