Turn recycling into a curriculum that sparks student enterprise

Container Exchange (COEX) is the not-for-profit behind Containers for Change, Queensland's container refund scheme. Since launch, it has put hundreds of millions of dollars back into the pockets of individuals, charities and community groups while keeping billions of containers out of landfill. Our purpose is simple: to create a better world through our environmental, social and economic impact, working toward a future where no container goes to waste.

We're now looking for a Schools Engagement Lead to take that mission into Queensland classrooms – building a curriculum-based education program from the ground up and rolling it out to schools across the state.

About the Role

This is a project-led, build-it-and-deliver-it role for someone who knows how schools actually work.

You will partner with an external agency to develop a curriculum-aligned education program, then take it directly to schools to implement and embed it. Starting locally and scaling state-wide, you will engage individual schools, the Department of Education and education peak bodies to drive participation and lasting behaviour change.

Reporting to the Stakeholder Engagement Manager, you'll have clear strategic direction and support to draw on, while taking ownership of the day-to-day delivery. We are after someone with genuine subject-matter expertise in schools who's keen to grow into the role – comfortable representing the program to students, teachers and partners, and confident asking for guidance when they need it.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the development of a curriculum-based education program in partnership with an external agency, ensuring content is age-appropriate, engaging and aligned to curriculum priorities such as sustainability, waste and the circular economy;

  • Engage schools across Queensland to implement and embed the program, tailoring your approach for different cohorts (primary and secondary, metro and regional);

  • Build and manage strong relationships with schools, P&Cs, education networks, the Department of Education and education peak bodies;

  • Act as a knowledgeable ambassador for Containers for Change, with a confident presence at activations, events and school engagements;

  • Manage delivery to a clear project methodology – keeping the program organised, on track and measurable; and

  • Monitor reach and participation, using insights and feedback to continuously refine and improve the program.

About You

You already understand how schools and curriculums work, and you have sound judgement about which programs will genuinely benefit a school community. You are naturally organised, thrive in a project environment, and can run with strategic direction while bringing your own expertise to the table.

You may come from a Project Officer, Program Officer, Education Officer or Advisor working on curriculum or school engagement. You will love engaging with stakeholders and collaborating with your peers in communications and marketing to bring programs to life.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a deep working knowledge of the Queensland schooling system, school operations and the broader education landscape

  • Has designed and delivered education or behaviour-change programs, ideally curriculum-linked

  • Builds strong relationships and communicates with confidence across diverse stakeholders

  • Can translate complex ideas into clear, engaging messages for young audiences

  • Is comfortable representing a program publicly at events and activations

  • Works independently across a large geographic area and is values-aligned with COEX

Experience with local government, community partners, waste education or the circular economy is a bonus, but your understanding of the education system is what matters most.

Other requirements:

  • Current Australian driver's licence;

  • Blue Card, or the ability to obtain one;

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal history check; and

  • Availability to travel and work flexible hours to suit school schedules and events.

Why COEX

You'll be building something new and lasting – a program that reaches schools right across Queensland and gives the next generation a hands-on stake in recycling and the circular economy. It's a rare chance to combine education expertise with genuine environmental and community impact, backed by a purpose-driven, values-led organisation.

Our values guide everything we do: be proactive, value others, work together, contribute positively, and be transparent.
