Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Government and Industry Relations, the Senior Engagement Specialist is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the enterprise-wide Stakeholder Engagement Strategy to grow trusted relationships, drive reputational goals and lead advocacy and influencing efforts to manage business opportunities and risks for the benefit of our 1.6 million customers and shareholding councils.

This role supports the Manager in delivering proactive, targeted stakeholder engagement across all levels of government, industry, regulators and water service providers, while working closely with internal senior leaders, managers and subject matter experts to interpret political developments, identify risks and opportunities and translate insights into strategic action. As a key leadership position within the Stakeholder Relations team, the Senior Engagement Specialist will help develop and implement a multi-year Stakeholder Engagement Strategy, build trusted, non-partisan relationships and lead high-quality advocacy and engagement initiatives.
 
Your key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication – Lead engagement delivery, including advocacy campaigns and strategies, while supporting internal teams and SMEs to manage stakeholder needs and ensure timely, positive outcomes;

  • Internal Partnerships – Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and deliver strategies, programs and advocacy aligned to organisational objectives;

  • Strategic Planning & Implementation – Deliver the Stakeholder Engagement Strategy, including activity tracking, reporting and development of key communication materials (briefings, submissions, presentations);

  • Strategic Engagement – Build trusted relationships, communicate complex issues clearly, monitor political and media developments and advise on risks and opportunities;

  • Frameworks & Standards – Contribute to continuous improvement of stakeholder engagement tools, templates and processes to drive consistency and efficiency;

  • Brand & Reputation – Support initiatives that strengthen and protect organisational reputation and positioning;

  • Customer & Community Advocacy – Represent and advocate for customer and community interests in stakeholder engagement activities; and

  • Policy & Content Development – Assist in developing policies, procedures and supporting content.

Please note, this position may also require on-call duties outside of standard working hours due to the critical nature of the role.
 
About You:

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree in public policy, communications, political science, law or similar;

  • Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking skills that enable execution of a successful strategic stakeholder engagement strategy and advocacy efforts with government and key stakeholders;

  • Proven ability to understand complex political and policy environments, demonstrating engagement skills and a track record of establishing non-partisan relationships with stakeholders;

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to understand and articulate positions clearly in written submissions, reports and presentations;

  • Knowledge of current and future political priorities and issues; and

  • Adaptability to changing environments, including in the political and legislative context.
