About the Organisation

Container Exchange (COEX) is the not-for-profit organisation responsible for delivering Queensland's Containers for Change scheme. Since launching in 2018, COEX has played a leading role in reducing container litter, increasing recycling rates and creating positive environmental, social and economic outcomes for communities across the state.

As the scheme continues to evolve, COEX is investing in the next generation of recycling infrastructure and technology to improve network capability and operational performance. About the Role

Reporting to the Operations Improvement Manager, the Senior Operations Improvement Lead provides senior operational improvement capability across the Operations division, supporting the delivery of complex initiatives that strengthen operational performance, consistency and scalability across the scheme. You will lead defined workstreams, solve complex operational problems, coordinate implementation and support the successful transition of approved improvements into business-as-usual operations.

Working across operational teams, internal functions, network partners and suppliers, you will translate complex operational issues into practical delivery plans, process changes and implementation requirements. The role combines operational analysis, project implementation, stakeholder management and change adoption, with a strong focus on ensuring improvements are effectively embedded across the business. Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead defined workstreams within approved operations improvement initiatives, ensuring delivery is aligned to scope, timelines, risks, benefits and operational priorities;

  • Translate complex operational issues into practical delivery plans, implementation requirements, process changes and transition activities;

  • Analyse operational performance, process constraints, service impacts and implementation risks to identify practical improvement opportunities;

  • Develop process documentation, operating models, workflow improvements, decision papers and implementation materials that support sustainable operational change;

  • Use operational data, stakeholder insights and site-level feedback to test assumptions, validate impacts and support evidence-based recommendations;

  • Coordinate complex implementation activity across multiple stakeholders, actively managing dependencies, readiness activities, communications and risks;

  • Support operational trials, pilots, site-level rollout activity and post-implementation reviews to ensure improvements are embedded effectively;

  • Build trusted working relationships with operational teams, internal functions, network partners, suppliers and other stakeholders to support alignment and adoption;

  • Facilitate workshops, briefings and working sessions to gather requirements, resolve issues and drive practical implementation outcomes; and

  • Coach and guide operational stakeholders and the Operations Improvement Lead on implementation discipline, documentation quality and continuous improvement practices.

About You

You are an experienced operational improvement, business improvement, project implementation or change professional who enjoys solving complex problems and turning ideas into practical outcomes. You are comfortable working across frontline, technical, commercial and corporate environments, with the ability to influence stakeholders, bring structure to ambiguity and ensure change is effectively embedded.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in business, operations, project management, continuous improvement, engineering or a related field preferred;

  • Substantial experience delivering operational improvement, business improvement, project implementation or change initiatives in operational, logistics, infrastructure, industrial or asset-intensive environments;

  • Demonstrated experience leading workstreams, coordinating complex implementation activity and influencing stakeholders without direct authority;

  • Strong operational analysis and problem-solving capability, including the ability to interpret data, identify root causes and develop practical solutions;

  • Demonstrated ability to design, document and improve operational processes, procedures, implementation plans and transition materials;

  • Strong project and implementation discipline, including action tracking, risk and issue management, progress reporting and benefits monitoring;

  • Experience across recycling, environmental, logistics, infrastructure, operational service delivery or multi-site environments is highly regarded; and

  • Drivers licence, flexibility to travel interstate including remote locations, and ability to obtain a Blue Card and maintain a satisfactory criminal history check.
